Teach2Connect is Sarah Barton Thomas, the Head of Lower School at Trinity Episcopal School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her twenty-three-year teaching and learning journey has led her from the music classroom, the opera world, the computer lab, and the coaching field to the principal’s desk and the leadership table. She is a born and raised Marylander who took detours in Missouri, Iowa, California, Ohio, and Texas before making her way back home again to teach in the metro area at St. John’s Episcopal School and Norwood School before heading South to serve as Middle School Director at The Montgomery Academy, Upper Elementary Division Head at Trinity School, Atlanta. A short stint at Sandy Spring Friends School as the Head of Lower School as COVID was winding down allowed her to serve both students and her own family.
Sarah was an NAIS Teacher of the Future for 2014-2015. She has grown her brain through classes at Harvard Graduate School of Education and the Klingenstein Summer Institute and was an OPERA America Fellow for Education in 2002. Sarah is a proud Bearcat of Northwest Missouri State University, where she received her BS. Ed in vocal music education, and a cheerful Blue Jay of Johns Hopkins University, where she obtained her MS.Ed in School Administration. She is a second-year doctoral student pursuing a Doctor of Educational Ministry in Educational Leadership at Virginia Theological Seminary. An Ironman triathlete and marathon runner, Sarah is an RRCA-certified running coach, has coached cross-country teams at all levels, and has helped adults reach their marathon goals.
She is passionate about helping kids live healthy lives that are filled with character-building experiences. Sarah loves to CONNECT with teachers and administrators from across the globe to discuss technology integration, cross-curricular connections, character-spiritual development, change leadership, and curriculum innovation. In her spare time, she enjoys singing in choir, running, reading nerdy-teacher books, cheering the Alabama Crimson Tide, exploring the woods, snuggling with Toby, and drinking coffee.
